White Monsoon Dress

7.3.11
Monsoon dresses either fall into one of two camps. They're either absolutely stunning and I covet them for days on end, or they look a little bit 'mother of the bride'. And while that's a great look if you are indeed the mother of a bride, it doesn't do it for me.

But this white summer dress does. It's simple, but the ivory beading makes it a little more interesting. There's some really nice detail on what would otherwise be a pretty dull dress. I can see this dress being worn on romantic picnic dates but also in the evening or any the beach. I'm not going to talk about beach to bar outfits (shudder), but yeah, I imagine it would be good for that. But have you been outside? It's freeeeeezing. I'm not going anywhere near a beach for at least three months.

This romantic little thing of a dress is £80. Wear with brown wedges and a little bit of attitude.

Jigsaw Prom Dress

4.3.11
I don't often look at the Jigsaw website. Not because everything isn't lovely. It is. And that's the problem. Lovely lovely things that I can't ever afford. I end up coveting dresses like this prom dress and wondering if £295 is really too much to spend on a dress.

Note to self: £295 is really too much for you to spend on a dress. Even one this pretty.

On paper, it's no different to a floral springy prom dress. But in reality, oh it's special. That dreamy fabric, the romantic sash bow, and the slightly asymmetric hem all work together and make for the most beautiful prom dress I've ever seen. I don't just think you could wear this to a wedding, I think you could get married in it.

Oh I want it so much. Please don't buy it and wear it to any parties I throw. I'd frankly have to ask you to leave. Or somehow get you out of it and steal it, and that could be socially a bit awwwwwkward.

Full Circle Strapless Dress

3.3.11
Oh Full Circle, you've created a very pretty dress here. The silk looks very expensive, doesn't it? Silk rushing isn't an easy look to pull off (despite what Karen Millen and Coast would have you believe). It can ace you about ten years if it's not done right.

But with the pattern, and the bright colour this is a nifty little number. Strapless dresses can be a little bit too... slutty if I'm honest. If they're too short, and too low cut in the bodice you're leaving nothing to the imagination, but the length makes this dress just that little bit modest. It's all about the slinky silhouette and the shoulders. I like dresses that are all about those things. Your legs will look fab in that tulip skirt too.

Unfortunately, with such a pretty dress, and such a pretty print, comes a hefty price tag. It's £130 which probably won't mean you need to remortgage your house and sell your new kitten, but it's hardly an impulse buy either. Still, I really really want it. Shame I don't have a new kitten to sell.

Warehouse Yellow Summer Dress

25.2.11
I love 99% of things about this halter dress from Warehouse.

Halter dresses are something that I've always liked. They're always flattering, and showing some back flesh is often way sexier than putting the girls on show.

Yellow, is a colour I love, even though I don't think I can pull it off particularly well (I'll try, I might be wrong). I like the print too, perfect for beaches.

The shape works for me, and it'll be more delicate because it's silk. So far so good right?

Well yes. But it's £80. And I've looked, long and hard to work out exactly why a short (admittedly silk) dress from Warehouse should be £80. I love it. But at some point in the last month the high street got very expensive and I'm left trying to work out why. If I'm going to spend eighty quid on a dress then it isn't going to be from Warehouse. No matter how pretty and summery it might be.

What do you think? Worth the money? Has the high street got more expensive recently?

Lanvin Silk Gown

24.2.11
Yes, I know. Another Lanvin dress. But Lanvin make it very very hard for me not to write about them (except when they do high street collaborations). Look at the colour! Look at the drapy sexiness! I spy a Lanvin dress and I am utterly powerless. Especially one as snazzy as this one.

I know I should look at the dusky rose colour and think 'grandma'. But I don't. I think I had a duvet cover that colour once. I don't care. On this dress it looks fantastic. The ribbon sets it off perfectly and the thigh split stops it from being mumsy. There's nothing mumsy about this dress. But I reckon my mum would look awesome in it (after she'd stopped balking at the £1880 Net-a-Porter price tag).

Not my usual modest style, but a very beautiful number none the less. Just shows that something doesn't have to be 'on trend' to be fashionable and beautiful. Lanvin do timeless so very well, I'd invest my pennies in this than something I'll never wear again come next February.

Pins and Needles Shirt Dress

23.2.11
Shirt dresses are fabulous things. If you get them right you look effortless. If you get them a bit wrong you look like you've gone out in your boyfriend's shirt and for some reason people think that's very sexy indeed. Especially boys. And TV adverts.

But y'know, it is kinda sexy. Sexy to me isn't always trussed up like Victoria Beckham (even if she can rock a pencil dress). It isn't wearing the tiniest thing you cat squeeze your lady bits into. It's more about you, and looking awesome in something that suits you.

Before I start going all Oprah on you, let's have a look at this dress. Muted colour, loose fitting, simple shirt style. None of those things scream sexy. But throw them together and it all works. It looks fabulous. It's even got pockets to put your things in.

Want to buy this and look all lazy and shaggable? It's £48 from Urban Outfitters.

Topshop Pink Batwing Dress

22.2.11
As much as I like this dress, I don't think it's one for larger sizes. I'm not sure anything this flouncy can work with curves. Put simply, my tummy would look pretty massive in this pink floral dress. But I love it.

Look at the colour! The colour that manages to look summery and light, without looking like you should be an extra in a Copacabana video. The floral pattern that doesn't look too twee is fabulous. It's a lovely dress, and I'd want to waft my sleeves in everyone's face. Which I'm sure they'll LOVE.

But alas, Batwings and floaty chiffon just don't work on me and my bosom, so I'll have to pass on this piece of pretty. Doesn't mean I love it any less though. And if you think you can carry it off, you can buy it from Topshop for £56. You really should, I get the feeling that this style of floaty number is going to be all over the place in a few weeks. Always good to get in there first.

Miss Selfridge Halter Dress

21.2.11
This halter neck dress is a massive contender for 'difficult weather wedding outfit'. I've never been sure about the whole midi length (which is very unfair as I've also never tried on a midi length dress). But everything else about this, I'm certain about.

Just look at all the floaty goodness! It's perfectly floaty (not flouncy, that's a very different thing), and it's utterly slimming thanks to the high neck and belted waist. You can't see because of her hair, but she's got a bow on her neck too.

And then the back. Oh my goodness the back. The halter back is sheer, and split oh so subtly. And then the cherry on what's already a very sexy cake. A row of those tiny little covered buttons all down the back. As if this dress could get any sexier.

The print is perfect. It's more of a retro graphic print rather than being spotty like it looks in that photo. And I love the mix of red and pink, especially with those red patent shoes. Miss Selfridge have got this dress bang on. They could have charged much more than £55 for it too. But because they haven't, I can afford it, and I love them more than ice cream.

Floral French Connection Dress

18.2.11
French Connection are a bit of a weird one for me. I want to love them. I actually do. But I can rarely find anything in there that I absolutely fall in love with. And they're not a cheap shop, if I don't think something is 100% fabulous, I'm not going to spend £100 on it. Actually, I probably shouldn't spend even £25 one something I don't completely love, but that's a thought for another time.

Because this floral dress might just change my mind. It falls off the shoulder in such a sexy sexy way. Things that show surprising flesh is always a winner in my book. This is one of those great 'oh look it's hot and sunny' dresses.

You just need a floppy hat, some big sunglasses and a really really good book. Oh, and a rather reasonable £47 in your pocket so you can pay for it.
